Every Birdie’s Welcome!

One things for sure, I love doors! Especially ones with old chippy paint. Polohouse for favorites on the first is featuring front door décor.

I was excited for this fun party and thought I would show some of my door décor.

I love placing an old door on my front porch.  Wonder if anyone is ever not sure which door to enter? lol!  For this door I lined a cute metal green planter with moss and filled it with fern and begonias. This pic was taken when I first planted it.  By the end of summer it was so full I loved it.

This door is just inside my entry.  Here hangs a swag with one of the paper birdhouses I made.

For a while I hung this square moss wreath from my front door.

IMG_5747_thumb[2]

The found nest had a perfect hole for tying it to the wreath.  I filled it with some faux eggs.

IMG_5749_thumb[1]

Because we used the crackly door that was on my front porch for a shelf in the living room this door now resides in it’s place.  I had so much going on out there I felt that a simple Forsythia wreath is all it needed.

IMG_6303

I hung this umbrella on my porch for April showers.  It’s now May, think I see a change coming.

IMG_6300

I dyed the eggs with Rit dye so they would be the color of robins eggs.  I am not lucky enough to have chickens.  I have seen some beautiful blue and green eggs that some hens lay.

IMG_6301

April showers certainly is bringing May flowers!

IMG_6302

There you have it, a bit of my door décor.

I would like to leave you with a picture of this door that I fell in love with at the St. George Home Shows.  I would love my door to be this color!

This door is so simple, but I love it!

I did a post featuring my living room shortly after we completed it.  I am reposting about it because a couple of blog friends are hosting parties about rooms.

Shasta at  In the Old Road has the theme What's your favorite room?

Donna at Funky Junk Interiors party is Picture Perfect Room

I don’t know how picture perfect the room is, but I am loving it and it is now my NEW favorite room!

I’ve hung a cluster of lilacs on the French Doors to welcome you.

Let’s step inside my newly remodeled living room.

IMG_6272

One of my favorite architectural finds, a piece from the front of a piano; hangs above the entry.

IMG_6273

Ever since we moved into our new home, 2 1/2 yrs. ago my living room has been red, green, and black.  Now it has a touch of pink and robins egg blue.  I loved my furniture, which I have had for quite some time, but the room was lacking in charm.

After a couple months of hard work for hubby and I the room now has the feel I have been wanting.

IMG_6277

Hubby put bead board on the wall and ceiling and added this shelf for me to display some of my vintage dishes.

This pic shows the ceiling a bit better.

IMG_5836

I painted the walls a pale yellow and the bead board white.

IMG_6276

My sofa fabric is a collection of florals, small and large and ticking. I’ve added burlap pillows that I made.  There is a large yellow sisal rug placed in front of the sofa.  It helps soften the wood floor.

IMG_6282

The shelf we hung to support the heavy mirror is made from a vintage door that hubby cut in half.  It’s attached to three vintage corbels.

The mirror reflects my old pillar in the entry.

IMG_6278

Lilacs fresh from the garden.  We don’t have any blooming here yet, but these came from our old home which our youngest son, Dalan bought.

IMG_6279

I think one of the reasons why this is my favorite room is because it holds so many vintage items that are dear to me.

Like my collection of old red glassware.

An old chippy table saved by my friend, Peggy when Roberts Crafts closed their doors.  The estate sale doily has a hand crochet edging, love it!

A wicker chair given to me years ago for Mothers Day by my hubby.  It use to be natural with green trim.

I love all of the dishes on my shelf, but this one is special.  It once belonged to my Aunt Viola.

I hope you enjoyed the tour.

Pretty Poppies!

Before I do my post  I would like to thank Debra from Common Ground for featuring my planted vintage baby bath.  I really appreciate it!

The first of the week I showed you my “Pop of Color” Poppies on my kitchen table.

If you’d like to see that post go here: Pop of Color

Today I thought I would share the rest of my kitchen poppy décor.

My friend, Ann gave me the cupboard door, turned tray for my birthday last year.  It’s a fun piece that helps group this vignette on my island.

IMG_6214

IMG_6208

I don’t have enough poppy dishes to really do an entire tablescape so I throw them here and there for color.  The birds nest was a favor from a baby shower.  I just sat it there when I came home.  The egg is chap stick.  How sweet is that?

IMG_6213

These are some of my everyday dishes.  I pulled them out to display for the month of May.  It might be fun doing a tablescape with them and the poppies.

IMG_6216

Vignette on the kitchen counter.

IMG_6210

Notice my Pyrex snack stackers?  They are a new find from my friend, Dolly’s Aunt Bunny.

IMG_6212

IMG_6210

When I saw this vintage teapot (coffee pot), not sure.  I was thrilled.  I have never found anything old with a poppy theme.

IMG_6211

To tie in the three colors found in poppies I filled my boxes with red, green, and yellow candy.  The green ones are a bit lower today.  Hee-hee, wonder who’s been snacking on them?

IMG_6209

Behind my stove I have a yellow platter and my poppy S&P and sugar.

IMG_6265

Yesterday I found this small poppy bowl at D.I. for 50 cents.

IMG_6262

Don’t you just love it when you find something to add to a previous collection?  No matter how small it brings me such delight.

There you have it, my pretty poppies.  I hope they help to brighten your day!

Hugs,

Jann

Share Your Cup Thursday #6

HI everyone and Welcome to Share Your Cup Thursday.  Last week was such a success and wonderful things were shared.

Because I had just done a post about collections I commented that if anyone had a collection I would love to see them.

Here are a few great collections.

Carlene from Organized Clutter shared her wonderful collection of bath tins.  Hop over and see how fun they all are.  There was a bit of jealousy going on over here at Mrs. Olsons.  This is something that I have wanted to collect for some time.  I have two.  Just haven ‘t ran across any reasonably priced.

I had decided that I would not feature someone that was featured the following week.  Well, here I go breaking that rule. lol!  Sandies collection of unusual planters was one I could not resist.  I too love planting in all kinds of vintage items.  They were all wonderful, but this was my favorite.  Visit her at Steadmans Corner

The last collection is from Shasta from In the Old Road.  I love how she is displaying her vintage hankie collection.

Now for a few other posts that I loved.

Poppy from With a Dash of Color showed us how she dolled up some pots Frenchy  Style.

Little Susie Homemaker shared a meatloaf recipe out of this 1950’s cookbook.  Can you believe that it was identical to the recipe my MIL gave me when we were first married.  Hubby’s favorite!  He always likes it with a baked potato and corn.

How cute are these birdie napkin rings shared by Shannon from Cozy Home Scenes?
